Terms of Service

Effective date: 1 January 2025

1. About this project

happypeopledo (happypeopledo.com) is an open research project. Its purpose is to understand what activities are associated with human happiness by collecting voluntary, publicly visible ratings. The project is non-commercial and not affiliated with any institution.

By creating an account or submitting ratings you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use this service. By using it you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you should have parental consent.

3. Your account

Authentication is provided by Clerk. You sign in with Google only. We do not store your password. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.

You may choose any public username or keep the automatically assigned anonymous one. You may update or delete your profile at any time from your profile page.

4. Public ratings

All ratings you submit — including the activity name, your Difficulty / Impact / Enjoyment scores, and the derived happiness score — are publicly visible and are available for download as open research data.

Optional demographic fields (birth date, nationality, gender) are also public when provided. They are published solely for research purposes and in aggregate form where possible.

Your email address is never published. It is stored privately by Clerk and used only for authentication.

If you stay anonymous your username will be a randomly generated string unlinked from your identity. Ratings are still public; only your username is random.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or deliberately skewed ratings;
  • Automate rating submissions (bots, scripts);
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer or harm the service;
  • Harass other users or abuse the platform in any way.

We reserve the right to suspend or remove any account that violates these terms.

6. Intellectual property

The site code is open source. Aggregate research data is released under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Individual ratings remain yours; by submitting them you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free licence to publish and use them for research.

7. Disclaimers

This service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. We make no claims about the scientific validity of the happiness model or the accuracy of any scores. Results are exploratory and for informational purposes only.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, happypeopledo shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
